Diversity and Inclusiveness

Ithaca is widely known for its diversity in lifestyles as well as demographics.

  • In "Cities Ranked and Rated," authored by Bert Sperling and Peter Sander, Ithaca was ranked in 2003 as number seven (7) for Best Places to Retire, and in 2004 was ranked number one (1) for Best Emerging U.S. Cities.
  • It was named the "most enlightened" city by the Utne Reader in 1997.
  • Organic Style Magazine, by Rodale Press, named it the "best healthy city in the Northeast"
  • A number of social and networking events, open to the public, are organized through Cornell's Office of Workforce Diversity and Inclusion.
  • The Tompkins County Diversity Consortium (TCDC) exists to be a catalyst to enhance awareness, networking, support and best practices of diversity and its benefits as an essential part of organizational success. Its primary objectives are to cultivate a continuous learning environment, promote a positive community image, and to serve as a liaison for diversity & inclusiveness resources. Through its web site, the consortium provides a relocation guide listing mulitcultural community service, business, and organization, and employment resources.
